Powell House Restaurant is owned and run by Alan and Cheryl Caw. Alan was born in Glasgow, Scotland and Cheryl in Durban, South Africa. Alan trained and worked as a chef in Scotland before immigrating to South Africa, when he moved to restaurant management. Cheryl has had a life-long passion for cooking and confectionery and together
they make a formidable team with a very ‘hands on’ approach. They draw on years of restaurant experience with their last restaurant being in the Great Karoo.
Their menu features traditional dishes such as bobotie, Indian lamb curry from Natal, Cape Malay pickled fish, and the iconic Malva pudding. There are various grills such as Springbok, Kudu, Rump steak, Karoo Lamb chops and some “old-fashioned” favourites.
Portions are geared to local appetites and the food is country-style at its best.Never intimidating – always appetizing.Explore their extensive wine list, which Alan has carefully selected from wines of the region.
We look forward to welcoming you to Powell House to enjoy true South African hospitality (with some Scottish humour), friendly service and a warm, country atmosphere in the heart of Swellendam.
